Jan. 26, 2018 Friday Report
Eden Prairie City Government Academy
Applications are now being accepted for the first Eden Prairie City Government Academy. The Academy is a free program designed to give residents a behind-the-scenes look at how their city operates. Each week, starting on Wednesday, April 18, a different department will be spotlighted giving participants a chance to tour City facilities, meet City staff, and learn more about municipal government. Following the six classes, participants will take part in a graduation celebration during a City Council meeting. Graduates will be invited to future graduation celebrations as alumni. Applications are being accepted until March 9. Please visit edenprairie.org/EPCityAcademy for more details and the application.

Eden Prairie residents are invited to apply for City Commissions now through Monday, Feb. 5. The City Council values the input of residents and provides opportunities for participation through six advisory commissions. Applicants must live in Eden Prairie. Applications can be found online at edenprairie.org/Commissions. The City is recruiting members for the following commissions:
- Flying Cloud Airport Advisory
- Heritage Preservation
- Parks, Recreation and Natural Resource
Street Sign Fundraiser
For the past two years, the Heritage Preservation Commission and the Public Works Department have been collaborating to offer outdated street signs for purchase to the public. This fundraising opportunity has been available because we have been updating street signs to comply with updated federal rules that regulate the size and retro-reflectability of all street signs throughout the United States. Proceeds from the sales of these nostalgic mementos will be used for Eden Prairie's historical education and preservation efforts. The signs cost $25 and can be purchased from the City Planning Division (952-949-8481).
CodeRED Test Date Change
The date for the CodeRED test has changed from Tuesday, Jan. 30 to Thursday, Feb 15 at 1 p.m. During the test, city officials will send a prerecorded voice message to all contacts within the system, as well as a written message to users who have opted-in to email and text message notifications. CodeRED provides the City with a high-speed telephone calling and text messaging system capable of delivering customized emergency messages directly to homes, businesses, and mobile telephone users.
Winter Blast, formerly known as Rock on Ice, is Friday, Jan. 26 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Staring Lake Park. There will be sledding, skating, snowshoeing, outdoor games, a bonfire and other rink activities. A food truck will also be onsite. Skate rental is not available. Please call 952-949-8449, ext. 5 for weather updates.
PROP and Empty Bowls
Join PROP at their Empty Bowls event on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m. People are invited to enjoy a simple bowl of soup and select a handmade bowl to take home as a reminder that there are hungry persons in our community. Goodwill donations are being accepted at the door — there is no set fee or an RSVP needed to attend. Even though there will not be a formal program, there will be local entertainment, and a silent auction of select artisan crafts from local artists.
