The City’s Communications Division recently earned top honors from the Minnesota Association of Government Communicators, winning the Northern Lights Award (first place) for the redesigned Life in the Prairie [PDF] newsletter and the Bronze Award (third place) for the Aspire Eden Prairie 2040 logo design.
In addition, the Life in the Prairie newsletter was named 2018 Best of Show, the top award granted to a single entry that best demonstrates effective government communications.
Why Redesign Life in the Prairie?
In 2016, research indicated a decrease in the number of residents who considered the newsletter a good source of information, and an increase in the number of residents who considered the City website a good source. These results and other survey data called for an update to the newsletter and its distribution method.
The goal was to produce a high-quality newsletter that would increase readership, simplify complex topics, drive readers to the City website for more information and become a convenient reference guide for residents.
The new magazine-style publication features striking photography and presents information using “plain language” in a visually appealing layout. The quarterly newsletter is now mailed to all households in Eden Prairie.
