The HeartSafe Eden Prairie program intends to make Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) as accessible as fire extinguishers throughout the City.
What is an AED and how can it save a life?
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that analyzes a victim's condition and, if necessary, delivers an electric shock to the heart to reverse Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). Nearly 500,000 Americans die of SCA each year, making it the leading cause of death in the United States.
AEDs are designed to be operated by both medical and non-medical personnel. One-button operation with clear voice direction and automatic analysis enables a person with minimal to no training to use the device.
HeartSafe Eden Prairie encourages local businesses to purchase AED units for their facilities. Contact Cardiac Science, the official AED partner for HeartSafe Eden Prairie, with questions or to purchase an AED.
Report AED Locations and Save More Lives
A person suffering from sudden cardiac arrest does not have much time. When dispatchers receive a call about a cardiac arrest patient, it is essential to guide them to the nearest AED.
After your AED is purchased or if you are already participating in an AED program, please report the location of the device to the Eden Prairie Fire Department at 952-949-6200. Your data will be stored in the Dispatch Center and can be passed on quickly to 911 callers and emergency responders, saving precious time and maybe even a life.
