The Southwest Light Rail Transit (SWLRT), or METRO Green Line Extension, is a high-frequency train that will connect downtown Minneapolis to Eden Prairie through St. Louis Park, Hopkins and Minnetonka. The METRO Green Line Extension is expected to be operational in 2023.
The lead agency is the Metropolitan Council, and the Southwest LRT Project Office manages the project, addresses public comments and provides frequent project updates. Click here to visit the Southwest LRT project website and subscribe to receive “Southwest LRT News” email updates. The Southwest LRT community outreach coordinators are the first point of contact for members of the public, community organizations and corridor businesses. They are available to answer questions, receive input on the project and help resolve issues.
James Mockovciak, Metropolitan Council’s outreach coordinator for Eden Prairie, can be reached at 612-373-3894.
Southwest LRT Community Works was created by Hennepin County in 2009 to put in place partnerships that will catalyze transit oriented development along the corridor, connect communities to LRT stations and create welcoming spaces around LRT stations. This effort supports LRT design and construction work by focusing “beyond the rails” including developing detailed plans for station area neighborhoods near proposed LRT stations.
