INCIDENT ON BELMONT LANE
Eden Prairie, Minn. — At approximately 5:50 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, Eden Prairie Police responded to a 911 call regarding a residential burglary and tamper with auto in the 9000 block of Belmont Lane.
After arriving at the scene, officers learned that the homeowner had opened his garage door to leave for work and then reentered the home to retrieve some items. When he again entered the attached garage, he discovered a suspect attempting to enter his motor vehicle.
After the suspect fled on foot and entered another vehicle with two people inside, the homeowner noted a complete description of the suspect and the vehicle, including the license plate, and relayed that information to Police. As a result, Police were able to locate the vehicle in the area and arrest three suspects for 1st Degree Burglary of an occupied dwelling, a felony; 5th Degree Controlled Substance Crime, a felony; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.
In addition, a search of the suspects’ vehicle revealed several items which may have been stolen, and Police are actively investigating whether or not these items could have been taken in other burglaries.
Eden Prairie Police would like to commend this homeowner on his quick action and wherewithal to make note of the specific information needed to locate and arrest the suspects in this case. Crimes such as these are opportunistic, and when the opportunity is presented, criminals will act upon it; but quick thinking citizens can help Police both prevent these crimes, and apprehend those responsible for committing them.
