The following policies have been adopted by the City of Eden Prairie in order to ensure a safe, positive and healthy environment. Additional policies will be added as circumstances warrant.

ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY

Purpose: The health, safety and well being of every patron utilizing the Eden Prairie Community Center is our primary objective. Respect for the Eden Prairie Community Center staff, patrons, and the building is paramount.

Policy: The Eden Prairie Community Center shall enforce a zero-tolerance policy with regards to negative participant conduct while on site, including, but not limited to, smoking, profanity, rowdy or disruptive behavior, fighting, mischief, and *alcohol/drug/or other substance use or possession. The Eden Prairie Community Center staff shall be the sole judge of what constitutes negative conduct and behavior covered by this policy.

The Eden Prairie Community Center is a family-based facility and all participants will be expected to govern themselves accordingly. Participants who exhibit negative conduct or behavior will be either temporarily or permanently expelled from the facility. The Eden Prairie Community Center staff will involve the Eden Prairie Police, when necessary, to enforce this zero-tolerance policy.

*Alcohol may be served by a specified licensed liquor provider during a permitted rental event at the Community Center.

COMMON AREAS/OVERALL BUILDING POLICIES

  • All children 7 years of age and under are required to have adult (16 years or older) supervision in the activity area at all times. Exceptions are if the participant is involved in an organized activity.
  • All children 8 – 11 years of age must have an adult (16 years of age) in the facility at all times. Exceptions are if the participant is involved in an organized activity.
  • Organized meetings in common areas are only permitted if organized through the Community Center.
  • Parties/gift opening or cake/cupcakes are not allowed in common areas.
  • For safety reasons we do not allow glass containers, unless authorized through the Community Center staff.
  • No overnight personal storage will be permitted in the building.
  • Please turn off personal boom boxes when in the building.
  • A photo I.D. is required for checking out building equipment. Exchange of a valuable for equipment is not accepted.
  • The Parks and Rec Director must approve all donations to the Community Center. All donations will become the property of the City of Eden Prairie.
  • The Community Center reserves the right to deny admission to anyone who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.
  • The City of Eden Prairie, and its personnel, are not responsible for items lost, stolen, left on site, or left in vehicle.

CLOSURS AND CANCELLATIONS

  • In the event of severe winter weather, the Community Center manager and Community Center staff will determine by 4 p.m. if that evening’s activities are occurring as planned. If you have not heard of a cancellation by 4 p.m., ALL programs and facility operations will occur as scheduled. 
  •  In the event that severe winter weather is expected to last through the night and into the next day, the Community Center manager and Community Center staff will make a determination by 7 p.m. for cancellation of the next day’s programs and facility operations. If you have not heard of cancellation by 7 p.m., all programs and facility operations will occur as scheduled.
  • If Community Center management determines that the Community Center will have a two-hour late start, the facility will open at 7:30 a.m. and all programs prior to 7:30 a.m. will be canceled. In addition, ALL REGISTERED PROGRAMS AND GROUP FITNESS CLASSES WILL BE CANCELED UNTIL NOON on a “Late Opening” day. If there is a hockey tournament scheduled for the morning of the late start, the tournament director will notify teams that the tournament will not begin until 7:30 a.m.
  • Changes to Community Center hours and cancellation of programs may be found on the City’s website at edenprairie.org/communitycenter and emails will be sent to those registered to receive Community Center information. The Community Center on-hold message will also reflect the changes.

SMOKING

  • By City of Eden Prairie ordinance we do not allow smoking within or outside the Community Center

OUTSIDE FOOD/BEVERAGE POLICY

  • Water bottles, individual beverages and single serving snack items will be allowed in the building.
  • No coolers, outside food/beverage, or glass containers shall be allowed in the Community Center unless organized through Community Center staff.

LOST AND FOUND

  • All items turned in will be date tagged. Valuable items will be turned over to the police after 60 days and all other items will be donated after 90 days of tag date.

EARLY CLOSURE

  • Staff shall have discretion to close the facility in case of a building emergency or inclement weather. Information will be posted on the website..

MAINTENANCE DAYS

  • The Community Center will block off dates for necessary repairs or maintenance of  areas/equipment usually during non-peak times. 

FITNESS AREA

  • Outside personal trainers not employed by the city may not accept personal payment from a client for training. The Community Center staff reserves the right to discontinue training opportunity of non-employee trainers.
  • Any person between the ages of 12-14 must go through a Youth Fitness Orientation session prior to using any of the fitness equipment. Upon completion, persons age 12-14 may use the fitness center when accompanied by an adult member (16 years of age or older) member at all times
  • Age 15 and older may use the fitness floor equipment.
  • A fitness orientation is recommended for all members and guests using the Fitness Center.
  • For the cleanliness of the facility only clear liquids will be allowed in the fitness areas.
  • Athletic shoes are required in all fitness areas; no bare feet, sandals or street shoes.
  • Proper athletic attire must be worn; no jeans are permitted in the cardio/weight room.
  • All available exercise equipment will be provided by the community center (i.e. hand weights, tubing, balance balls, mats, etc.). Outside exercise equipment will not be permitted with the exception of weight belts and gloves.
  • Patrons are permitted to bring their own personal basketball and volleyballs; however, the facility is not responsible for theft, damage or loss of these items.
  • All individuals using the fitness area must be a member or pay the daily fee.

GROUP FITNESS

  • The group fitness studios may be utilized for group fitness classes and schedule, structured programs only.
  • Group Fitness Classes can be attended by ages 15 and older. Bootcamp has a requirement of being at least 16 years of age.
  • Youth Group Fitness Classes can be attended for ages 12-14. Adults may attend with their child if space is available.
  • All group fitness classes will have set maximum numbers. These numbers will be based on class formats. Participants wishing to attend a group fitness class must check in at the front desk and obtain a class card. Class cards may be picked up fifteen minutes before the class start time.
  • No gum, food, or beverages, with the exception of water is permitted in the studio at any time.
  • All participants must wear proper footwear. Please no black sole or open toe shoes.
  • All individuals participating in group fitness classes must wear appropriate clothing and tennis shoes.
  • No admittance will be allowed to class after five minutes.
  • Please respect our studio by placing all equipment in its correct spot at the conclusion of class.

LOCKER ROOMS

  • The City of Eden Prairie is not responsible for items that are lost, stolen or left in the facility.
  • Please keep clothing and valuables locked in lockers.
  • For everyone’s safety, please do not run in the locker room area.
  • Please keep wet items on the available benches instead of placing them on the carpeted area.
  • Children 11 years of age an younger are not permitted in the locker rooms unless accompanied by an adult.
  • Do not leave items overnight in lockers. Items left in lockers overnight will be removed. Valuable items will be turned over to the police after 7 days and all other items will be donated after 30 days of tag date.
  • All gym bags and personal items must be placed in a locker.
  • Family locker rooms are made available for your convenience.
  • Please refrain from using cell phones in the locker room area.

INDOOR PLAYSTRUCTURE

  • The Indoor Play structure is designed for children 11 years of age and under.
  • Unsupervised children are not permitted in the play area. Adult supervision must be 16 years of age or older and will not be charged admission.
  • Children 17 months and younger will not be charged admission.
  • Children 18 months to 15 years will be charged admission.
  • Those guests 16 years and over will not be charged admission.
  • No food or beverages permitted in the play area.
  • A hand stamp is required for admittance into the play area.
  • No running or rough play is permitted.
  • Socks must be worn at all times. No shoes or bare feet shall be permitted.
    Group Rates:
  • Two weeks advanced notice reservation required based on availability.
  • Group rates do not apply on school release days, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • A minimum of one adult supervisor for every ten children is required, to be present.

POOL ACCESSIBILITY

  • Eden Prairie Community Center and Oak Point Pool have chair lifts provided to allow for easy entry to and exit from the pools.

GENERAL POOL FACILITY POLICIES

  • Children 7 years of age and younger must have an adult in the water, within arms reach, at all times.
  • All children 8 – 11 years of age must have an adult (16 years of age) in the facility at all times.
  • All swimmers must take a cleansing shower prior to entering the swimming pool.
  • Only Coast Guard approved swimsuits with built in floatation will be allowed and only with an adult (16 years of age and older) is within arms reach of the swimmer at all times.
  • No person with or suspected of having a communicable disease which could be transmitted through use of the pool, shall use the pool.
  • Proper swim wear is required. No cut-offs or t-shirts allowed in the pool.
  • Diving is permitted only in designated diving areas.
  • Spitting, spouting water from the mouth and blowing the nose in the pool is prohibited.
  • No running or rough play is permitted in the pool or locker rooms.
  • Glass objects of any type are not allowed in the pool area.
  • Visiting with the lifeguards is prohibited.
  • Persons with open or infectious sores are not permitted in the pool.
  • Any person under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be permitted to use the facility.
  • Children under the age of 3 and any swimmers who are not potty-trained must wear proper swim pants with snug-fitting elastic legs and waists. A swim suit may be worn over the rubber or vinyl swim pants. Reusable swim pants are highly recommended, as disposables rarely afford proper protection.

SLIDE POLICIES (Oak Point Pool Only)

  • All users must be 48" tall or successfully complete a swim test administered by the lifeguards.
  • Running up the stairs is unsafe and not permitted.
  • Patrons or staff may not catch their children at the bottom of the slide.
  • One person on the slide at a time. 
  •  Please refrain from:
    1. Running or leaping entries to the slide.
    2. Spinning, standing, kneeling or stopping while on the slide.
    3. Wearing goggles on the slide.

LAP SWIM

  • No lifeguard on duty during lap swimming at the Community Center.
  • Lap swimmers must be 18 years of age or older.
  • During lap/open swim hours, lap swimmers are to limit their swimming to the designated lap lanes.
  • During designated lap swimming times there will be a minimum of two lanes available for lap swimming.
  • Lap lanes are available on a first come, first serve basis. Lap swimmers are  encouraged to circle swim.
  • Lane lines will be put in upon request.
  • During water exercise classes at EPCC, lap swimmers are requested to swim meters.
  • All other times lap swimmers will swim yards.

OPEN SWIM

  • Only Coast Guard approved lifejackets are allowed and only when an adult (16 years of age and older) is in the water, within arms reach of the user. Participants may not wear PFD’s when utilizing the water slide and/or diving board.
  • Soft balls, small water toys, noodles and barbells may be used at the Head Guards discretion. These items may not be used in the diving well at EPCC or deep end at Oak Point. (NOTE: These items will not be allowed when large user groups are in attendance). Kickboards and mats are not allowed at any time.
  • Faces masks, fin snorkels are not allowed unless waived for a special event.
  • Other inflatable floatation devices are not allowed (inner tubes, water wings, air  mattresses etc.)

OPEN SKATE

  • Open Skate is designed to be an enjoyable and safe activity for all participants
  • Participants age 11 and under must have a supervising adult in the building 
  • Participants age 7 and under must have a supervising adult in the activity area 
  • Participants must pay before taking the ice 
  • Participants must wait to enter ice rink until Zamboni doors are closed and rink guard signals for open skate to begin 
  • Skaters must skate in the same direction (counter-clock wise) 
  • Skaters should be aware of small children 
  • Skaters must leave the ice immediately at the conclusion of open skate session 
  • Food and beverage is not allowed on the ice 
  • Adults and children may not be on the ice without skates 
  • Skaters may not sit on boards during open skate 
  • Music must be set to pre-approved radio selections. 
  • Activities such as: tag, chase games, weaving through skaters, speed skating, racing, crack the whip and trains is not allowed 
  • Skaters may not throw hockey gloves, hats, mittens, snowballs, etc. 
  • Skate aid equipment is for beginner and tot skaters only, and not to be used for any other purpose 
  • Hockey drills, sticks and pucks are not allowed on the ice 
  • Skating lessons may not be given without EPCC supervisor approval 
  • Figure Skating jumps and dance routines are not allowed on the ice 
  • Ice skate blades are not permitted above knee height 
  • Skaters may not use personal CD/tape music during open skate

ADULT OPEN SKATE

  • Figure Skating jumps only allowed in designated area (back left face-off circle), with EPCC staff approval.
  • Figure Skating dance routines are only allowed on the ice with EPCC staff approval.
  • Ice skate blades above knee height are only permitted with EPCC staff approval.
  • Skaters may not use personal CD/tape music during open skate.
  • Staff approval for the above exceptions will only be given when attendance is low and a safe environment can be provided.

GENERAL GYMNASIUM POLICIES

  • All individuals using the gym must be a member or pay a user fee.
  • ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST SHOW A VALID PHOTO ID, MEMBERSHIP CARD OR PROGRAM ACCESS CARD TO GAIN ENTRY TO GYM.
  • All individuals must wear a wrist band while participating in the gym.
  • Water bottles will be permitted, but no food, gum or beverages are allowed in the Gym.
  • Please be considerate of space and limit size of gym bags brought into the gym area, the Community Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • No black soled shoes or shoes that mark the floor will be permitted. No bare feet, sandals or street shoes.
  • Attire or gestures recognized as a gang representation will not be allowed.
  • Dress code must be appropriate. “Skins” will be allowed during organized or full-court games only.
  • Community Center staff reserves the right to determine all gym use and inappropriate behavior by users.
  • Organized or full-court games will only be allowed when designated on the Gym schedule.
    Please refrain from:
    1. Dunking, slamming or hanging on the rims or nets.
    2. Running or bouncing balls in the hallways anywhere in the Community Center.
    3. Spitting, rough housing, wrestling or pushing.
    4. Swearing, abusive, inappropriate language or gestures.
  • Individuals displaying any of the above behavior may be ejected without warning from the facility without refund. Suspension for up to one year for repeated violations may occur.
  • Children ages 11 and under are required to be accompanied by an adult over 16 years of age, Unless it is Family Open Gym and the Adult must be 21+.
  • Only Photo I.D.s or member locker keys are accepted in exchange for balls or other equipment.
  • Exchange of a valuable for equipment is not acceptable.
  • The patron has a financial obligation to replace balls, equipment or lockers that have been damaged, stolen or lost.
  • Non-Member Open Gym users are not permitted to use the locker rooms unless a fitness day pass has been purchased.
  • Everyone who enters the gym during non-rented gym time, including spectators, must be a member or pay the daily fee.

OPEN BASKETBALL POLICIES

  • Open Basketball is defined as a time where players of all ages can come to sharpen their skills by playing pick-up basketball games or just shooting hoops.
  • Open Basketball participants must follow all general gymnasium policies.

ADULT OPEN BASKETBALL POLICIES

  • Adult Open Basketball is defined as a time where players ages 18+ can come to sharpen their skills by playing pick-up basketball games or just shooting hoops.
  • An Adult is defined as age 18 and up. No one under 18 will be allowed in the Gym during this time.
  • Adult Open Basketball participants must follow all general gymnasium guidelines.

Adult/Child OPEN GYM POLICIES

  • Adult/Child Open Gym is defined as a time where children are accompanied by an adult 18+ can come into a non-competitive atmosphere to  participate in shooting hoops.
  • ALL children must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older in the gymnasium.
  • This is a time for a non-competitive atmosphere. No pick-up games or organized drills allowed.
  • Adult/Child Open Gym participants must follow all general gymnasium guidelines.

DEVELOPMENTAL BASKETBALL

  • Developmental Basketball is defined as a time where players of all ages can come with their coach or instructor to work on their basketball skills by practicing drills or other organized activities.
  • This program offers players an opportunity for private coaching sessions with an instructor/coach.
  • All players (anyone taking a lesson/working on a skill) must pay before walking into the gym.
  • Players are required to wear a designated wristband, as proof of payment. Note: Instructors do not have to pay to be in the gym, It is the coach’s responsibility to ensure that each student player has paid each day, before walking into the gym.
  • Players may not enter the gym until “Developmental Basketball’ has begun.
  • Players must exit the gym when “Developmental Basketball” time is over.
  • When conducting coaching sessions or drills, please be considerate of other players.
  • Maximum of 5 players to one coach.
  • Developmental Basketball participants should follow all general gymnasium guidelines.

COMMUNITY GYM POLICIES

  • Community Gym is defined as a time where players of all ages can come into a non-competitive atmosphere to practice non-contact sports that  utilize soft balls such as basketball shooting, football (passing only), tennis, soccer, etc.
  • Activities are subject to approval by the Manager on Duty and amount of people in the gym.
  • This is a time for a non-competitive atmosphere, no pick-up games or organized drills allowed.
  • Family Open Gym participants must follow all general gymnasium guidelines.
