Eden Prairie’s top priority is the safety of its residents and visitors. Some safety precautions can help eliminate accidents and injuries. Roadways are used by pedestrians, bicyclists and motorized vehicles. There are a few rules and reminders that every resident and visitor should know when using the streets.

Motorists/Residents:

  • Drive slowly! Do not drive faster than is reasonable or prudent.
  • Respect all neighborhoods as if they were your own.
  • Watch and yield to pedestrians.
  • Discuss traffic safety / speeds with your neighbors.
  • Report damaged, faded, or missing traffic signs.
  • Maintain good visibility by trimming landscaping.

Pedestrians / Children

  • Do not play in the street. Instead, use your own yard, play in a friend's yard or in a nearby park.
  • Stop, look, and listen before crossing the street.
  • Continue to watch for traffic while crossing the street.
  • Do not assume that you will be seen and that a driver will yield.
  • Wear bright or reflective clothing at night.

Snow Safety for Children
Minnesota winters mean the snowplows will be out clearing snow off the streets. Parents are reminded to help keep their children safe by keeping children at least 20 feet back from snow plowing operations. The wake of snow coming off the plow can be dangerous. Ensure that snow forts are built in the backyard and away from the side of the street. It is dangerous for children to be in snow forts where plow drivers cannot see them.

Neighborhood Watch Program
Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that requires active citizen participation, in cooperation with law enforcement, to reduce crime in communities. As a member of Neighborhood Watch, citizens will be trained to recognize and report suspicious activity in  neighborhoods. Residents can learn more about joining or forming a Neighborhood Watch program by calling 952-949-6200.
