The Human Rights and Diversity Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the City on matters of diversity, civil and human rights, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Commission has been involved in such important social issues as identifying needs of the immigrant population and finding solutions to “bullying” in local schools. Meetings are held on the lower level of Eden Prairie Center mall at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month.
Human Rights and Diversity Commission roster:
- Gayle Sanders
- Linda Crawford
- Marcy Harris (Vice Chair)
- Peter Huck
- Lauren Juergensen
- Robert Rozanski
- Pamela Spera (Chair)
The Commission presents Human Rights Awards annually in four categories: youth, individual, non-profit group and business.
The Bias Crime Network is a collaborative effort between the Eden Prairie Police Department and the Human Rights and Diversity Commission. It was set up as a support network for citizens who feel they have been discriminated against or have been victims of biased crimes. When an incident is reported to the Police, the Commission is notified (names are usually anonymous) and takes action.
Commission meetings are open to the public. Please contact the Commission staff liaison to request, in advance, consideration to be placed on the agenda and/or to speak before the Commission.
The City staff liaison for the Human Rights and Diversity Commission is Molly Koivumaki.
