Motorized foot scooters are regulated by Minnesota State Statute 169.225. The provisions of the law are the same as those of a bicycle.  In addition the law states that:

  • Passengers are prohibited.
  • Scooters may not be operated on a sidewalk.
  • The scooter operator must be 12 years old or older.
  • Those under age 18 must wear a helmet properly fitted and fastened.
  • The scooter must have a headlight and taillight to be operated at night.
  • A person may operate a scooter on a bicycle path if there is no sign posted restricting motorized traffic.
