Every year thousands of purses and wallets are stolen in the metro area, including hundreds right here in Eden Prairie. Once these thefts occur, thieves use stolen checks and credit cards within minutes to purchase goods that they may sell, pawn or trade for cash or drugs.

As we head into the busy holiday shopping season, the Eden Prairie Police Department, working on a grant from Target Corporation, is taking an extra step to increase public awareness of these crimes by producing and distributing more than 5,000 “Protect Your Purse” brochures throughout the City.

“These thefts typically occur at grocery stores, discount stores, fitness facilities, workplaces and shopping malls,” said Eden Prairie Police Officer Fred Bock. “The public needs to be aware of steps that can be taken to avoid becoming a victim, and be prepared with the knowledge of what to do when it happens.”
