The four major divisions that make up the Community Development Department at the City of Eden Prairie include:

• Assessing 
• Economic Development 
• Housing and Community Services
• Planning

The Assessing Division is responsible for property appraisals, homestead applications and the Board of Appeal and Equalization. 

Economic Development promotes business growth and retention, works on bond and tax increment financing, assists businesses with site locations and advocates for transportation.

Housing and Community Services works on affordable housing initiatives, administration of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding, new immigrant relations, referrals to social service providers such as PROP, and providing staff support to the Human Rights and Diversity Commission. 

The Planning Division is responsible for comprehensive planning, zoning code updates, development approvals, sign permits, the Heritage Preservation Commission, the Airports Commission and the Planning Commission. 

The Community Development Director oversees the work of the four divisions and takes an active role in implementing the Major Center Area study, managing large redevelopment projects, collaborating with other units of government / agencies and promoting positive legislative outcomes.
