Prescribed Prairie Burns Planned
City parks and natural resources staff, with assistance from the Fire Department, are conducting prescribed prairie burns this fall. Each prescribed burn is expected to last one to three hours, dependent upon weather conditions.
Prescribed burns help to rejuvenate growth and ensure long-term survival of the native prairie by controlling invasive plants. After burning, the ground will appear charred, but plant regrowth will occur in the spring and produce a variety of new species.
Prescribed Burn Locations
- Crestwood Park
- Edenbrook Conservation Area
- Miller Park
- Outdoor Center
- Purgatory Creek Park
- Richard T. Anderson Conservation Area
