Welcome K-9 Gus!

Post Date:March 06, 2019

The EPPD is excited to welcome K-9 Gus to the department. Gus is a 12-month-old German shepherd/Belgian malinois from Slovakia. He was named by his new handler, Officer Nate Eichman, and is living with Officer Eichman and his family.

K-9 Gus and Officer Eichman will attend a 12-week K-9 school beginning March 11, where Gus will learn basic patrol dog and narcotics detector skills.

Gus was purchased with a donation to the Eden Prairie Crime Prevention Fund from the family of the late Dr. John Wright, a veterinarian who was instrumental in starting the EPPD’s K-9 program in 1981. Dr. Wright provided free veterinarian services to the department’s K-9s for 10 years until his retirement in 1991. When he passed away in 2016, Dr. Wright’s family honored his commitment to the EPPD K-9 program with a generous donation to the Crime Prevention Fund.

Thank you to the Wright family and Crime Prevention Fund, and welcome to the department Gus!
