The Eden Prairie Police Department blog provides an opportunity for the public to learn more about the people who work there — their stories, their lives, their work in Eden Prairie and their thoughts on topics from driving to dogs.
Thank You Plungers!
Last weekend 731 people, including four EPPD officers, plunged into the icy waters of Riley Lake as part of the Special Olympics Polar Plunge. Friday was the Eden Prairie “Cool School” plunge for high school students and Saturday was the traditional Polar Plunge.
The plungers solicited donations, which go to Special Olympics Minnesota. More than $160,000 was raised between the two events. With 24 plunges completed statewide this year and four more to go, 12,933 plungers have raised more than $3.3 million.
Law enforcement plays a significant role in helping to raise both money and awareness for the Special Olympics. Police departments, including Eden Prairie, participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run and help out at the Special Olympics games throughout the year.
Thank you to everyone who plunged, pledged and volunteered at this year’s Eden Prairie Polar Plunge. And a special thank you to the Eden Prairie Parks and Fire Departments, Police Reserves, Police Explorers and CERT team for their work prepping the area and keeping the plungers safe.
