Take Back Day Results
Last Saturday the EPPD worked with the National Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to host a National Prescription Drug Take Back event at the Eden Prairie Senior Center. People were able to drop off their unused or expired prescription medication for free and the EPPD safely disposed of it. At the event, 22 boxes weighing a total of 366 pounds were collected. This was the most ever collected at an Eden Prairie event.
If you missed the drop-off and have prescription drugs that you’d like to dispose of in a safe manner, the EPPD has free home medication disposal bags that can be picked up at Eden Prairie City Center, 8080 Mitchell Road, Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Each bag provides for the disposal of up to 90 pills, 12 ounces of liquid medication or 12 transdermal patches. The bags contain activated carbon which neutralizes the medication and prevents it from contaminating ground and drinking water.
If you have prescription medications at home, be sure to secure them from curious children and pets. You may want to consider purchasing a medicine cabinet with a locking mechanism.
Please note, the EPPD does not accept medication drop-offs at our department. Hennepin County has drop box locations to safely dispose of large or small quantities of medication.
