Sustainable Eden Prairie is an ongoing effort focusing on education and implementation of sustainable practices to protect the environment and natural resources our community enjoys.
Building upon the success of the 20-40-15 initiative, the City is leading by example and providing a foundation for residents and businesses to carry out sustainable practices in four areas — energy, landscape, waste and water.
Slash Your Trash and Join the Zero Waste Challenge!
Participate in the Zero Waste Challenge to discover ways to increase recycling and reduce waste in your household.
The City of Eden Prairie is encouraging residents to participate in Hennepin County’s Zero Waste Challenge.
The county is looking for 50 households to participate in the eight-month challenge that takes an in-depth look at the goods we buy and the waste we create to uncover opportunities to recycle more and reduce waste.
Households participating in the challenge track and report the trash, recycling and food waste their households generate at the beginning and end of the challenge to measure their waste reduction.
Throughout the challenge, participants receive personalized coaching, free workshops and other assistance from Zero Waste Challenge staff and trained volunteers. The county also provides supplies and educational materials such as scales to weigh waste, compostable bags, backyard compost bins and zero-waste guides.
The Zero Waste Challenge runs Sept.9, 2019–April 30, 2020.
Apply at hennepin.us/ZeroWasteChallenge by Sunday, Aug. 18.
The Zero Waste Challenge closely aligns with Sustainable Eden Prairie, the City’s ongoing effort focusing on education and implementation of sustainable practices. By engaging and educating the community about the importance of recycling and the broad range of materials that can be recycled, reduced and/or reused, we can protect the natural resources our community enjoys.
