Walk to End Distracted Driving Aug. 10
In Minnesota, distracted driving contributes to an average of 45 deaths and 204 life-changing injuries per year. Lawmakers hope to bring that number down with the Hands-Free law that went into effect Aug. 1 which prohibits holding a cellphone in your hand while driving.
If you’d like to help make an impact on distracted driving, join the 2019 Raksha 5K Run/Walk to End Distracted Driving Saturday, Aug. 10 at Purgatory Creek Park, 13001 Technology Drive.
The Walk benefits the Shreya R. Dixit Memorial Foundation, which was created in memory of Shreya R. Dixit, an Eden Prairie resident who was killed in a distracted driving crash while on her way home from college in 2007. The Foundation’s mission is “to raise awareness of distracted driving, educate our community on safe and distraction-free driving and encourage drivers to be mindful of the safety of other drivers and passengers on the road.”
Participants can register online for the 5K Run/Walk.
