EPPD Welcomes Four New Officers
Yesterday EPPD Chief Greg Weber swore in the department’s four newest officers: Katie Kline, Steven Nessler, Ben Sinko and Alex VanSomeren. All four officers served as community service officers for Eden Prairie before being hired as sworn officers.
Officer Kline grew up in Eden Prairie and volunteered as a Police Explorer with the Eden Prairie/Edina Explorer Post for six years. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of St. Thomas and her law enforcement certificate from Alexandria Technical College. She has worked as an EPPD community service officer since 2016 in addition to working as a community service officer for the Edina Police Department.
Officer Nessler grew up in Mankato and received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice at Concordia St. Paul while playing baseball there. He received his law enforcement certificate from Hennepin Technical College and was an intern for the Hopkins Police Department before coming to Eden Prairie as a community service officer in April 2019.
Officer Sinko grew up in Blaine and earned a bachelor’s degree in history and law enforcement certificate from Metropolitan State University. Prior to becoming an officer, he worked in finance, as a Minnesota State Fair reserve officer and as a community service officer with Eden Prairie. Officer Sinko has also written and published a book on WWII aviation.
Officer VanSomeren grew up in Hudson, Wis. and received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, bachelor’s degree in Biblical studies and minor in psychology at the University of Northwestern–St. Paul. He completed his law enforcement certificate program at Rasmussen College and shortly after began working at the EPPD as a community service officer in September 2018.
The officers will spend the next 3–4 months in the department’s Field Training program before patrolling by themselves.
Welcome Officers Kline, Nessler, Sinko and VanSomeren!
