The City Council adopted a preliminary 2020-2021 Budget and Tax Levy at the Sept. 3 council meeting with final approval scheduled for Dec. 3. Ash Tree Marking Begins Sept. 23
As part of Eden Prairie’s emerald ash borer (EAB) management plan, the City is removing a portion of ash trees in areas with active EAB infestations and high ash populations, and individual ash trees not suitable for treatment. Beginning Monday, Sept. 23, parks and natural resources staff are marking ash trees designated for removal on City property and in the right of way with an orange ring. Individual property owners with trees marked for removal are being notified in writing. Approximately 275 ash trees are designated for removal this year, and 400 trees will be planted next year. Communications Division Wins National Awards
Congratulations to the City’s Communications Division, which recently earned top honors from the City-County Communications and Marketing Association. The team earned first place for the Life in the Prairie newsletter [PDF], second place for the “Real Talk with Rick” podcast and third place for the “Real Talk With Rick” logo design.

City Achieves SolSmart Gold Designation
The City recently achieved the Gold designation from the national SolSmart program for its efforts to make the conversion to solar energy faster, easier and more affordable for both homes and businesses. This designation specifically recognizes the City for taking bold steps to not only encourage solar energy growth, but to remove obstacles to solar development. More information is available at

Art Center Teen and Adult Open House

On Friday, Sept. 27 from 6–9 p.m., the City is hosting an Open House at the Art Center (7650 Equitable Drive). The event offers an opportunity to enjoy hands-on projects, see demonstrations, meet instructors and get acquainted with everything the Art Center offers.

This Weekend's Events
The City's popular Arts in the Parks event is Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9–4 p.m. This event showcases artwork of all types created by local and regional artists and vendors. It also includes live entertainment, lawn games, art activities, wine and beer sold by the Eden Prairie Noon Rotary, and food trucks. Also, Eden Prairie Players wrap up its Collection of One Acts Sept. 20–21 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at or at the door.

Sept. 23 Planning Commission Meeting Canceled
The Sept. 23 Planning Commission meeting has been canceled; the next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 14.
