National Police Week
This is National Police Week, a time to honor, remember and celebrate law enforcement. While many of the traditional ways to celebrate the week have been modified due to COVID-19, the law enforcement community has developed a number of ways to honor law enforcement, in particular those officers who were killed in the line of duty.
Since 1977, when the first fallen officers memorial was installed at the MSP Airport, officers from around the state have been standing guard at the memorial for 24 hours on May 15 which is National Peace Officers Memorial Day. This event will not occur in person this year but a memorial service will be held on Facebook on May 15 at 7.p.m.
The tribute will include reading aloud the names of the 289 fallen Minnesota officers who have given their lives in the line of duty since the beginning of the roll, and the addition of three officers to the roll. Those wishing to view the memorial service should go to https://www.facebook.com/MinnesotaLawEnforcementMemorialAssociationlema
In addition, officers around the state, including those from Eden Prairie, will wear mourning bands over their badges on May 15.
