Basic Skills teaches the fundamentals of ice skating in order to provide a strong foundation.
Upon completion, skaters can confidently advance to more specialized areas of skating.
Basic 1 — Skaters age 7 and older who have never skated before
Learn to stand and move on the ice. No hockey skates please.
Basic 2 — Skaters age 7 and older with previous skating experience but no previous formal instruction
Skaters who successfully completed Snowplow Sam 3. Skaters who have successfully completed Basic 1. Basic skating skills are taught for the figure skater or hockey player.
Basic 3 — For skaters who have successfully completed Basic 2
Stroking and backward skating are taught at this level.
Basic 4 — For skaters who have successfully completed Basic 3
Edges and forward crossovers are taught at this level.
Basic 5 — For skaters who have successfully completed Basic 4
Backward crossover and turns are taught at this level.
Basic 6 — For skaters who have successfully completed Basic 5
Turns, beginning spins and spirals are taught at this level.
