Creative, Crafts and Shopping

Events take place at the Senior Center unless otherwise specified.

Bread Day

Weekly on Mondays 9 a.m. until supplies run out
In partnership with local businesses, the Senior Center makes bread and bakery items available to the public on a donate-what-you-can basis (suggested donation of $1 per item). Selection and quantities vary each week. Proceeds help support Senior Center programs.

Crafting

Weekly on Mondays 1–3 p.m.
Bring your own project to work on and socialize with friends and neighbors. All levels of crafters are welcome.

Creative Writing

Schedule in Senior Center NEWS [PDF]
Enhance your writing by using description, dialogue, humor and personal insight to tell stories - about your life, fictional characters or poetic expression. Meet other writers with similar backgrounds wishing to share common interests and experiences, and read each other's writing for inspiration and lively discussions. Fun, in-class exercises prompt spontaneous writing and highlight the importance of punctuation and tense for clarity.

Beginning Memoir Writing

Schedule in Senior Center NEWS [PDF]
You have a story to tell. When you put that story in writing, your words draw pictures of how you lived and loved. One memory leads to another - you remember yourself, your loved ones, and the challenges and accomplishments that helped make you who you are. And who you are comes to life in your memoir, a gift only you can give. Writers in this class share their work weekly for appreciation and constructive discussion. Participants also learn from in-class exercises, prompts when necessary, individual help and suggestions for construction and clarity. Don't be surprised when you bond with classmates as they share their stories.

Greeting Cards

Weekly on Tuesdays 9–11 a.m.
Help brighten someone’s day when you create greeting cards for the Senior Center’s recycled card program. Each card costs $1; all proceeds help support programs and services at the center. Check out the display board in Room 200 for examples.

Learn To Play Old-Time Fiddle

Schedule in Senior Center NEWS [PDF]
Expand your musical skills with this group of beginner fiddle players in this open fiddle session. If you have never played the fiddle but always wanted to learn or play with others, come and join. The group teaches the basic techniques to play fiddle and helps each other in this learning experience. You must have a fiddle or rent one from a violin store to participate in the class.

Quilting Group

Weekly on Tuesdays 9–11 a.m. (October–May only)
Put your creative skills to use and work with others to help sew a quilt or bring your own project. The finished quilt is raffled in May during Senior Awareness Month.

Weekly on Mondays noon–3 p.m.
Get a ride on the Senior Center bus from home when you call the Senior Center by Thursday the previous week to schedule your trip. One destination per person please. A donation of $2 each way or $4 round trip is suggested. Call the Senior Center to sign up.
