West 70th Street Improvement Project

West 70th Project Map

Project Summary
The construction of the West 70th Street extension was substantially completed in fall 2015. The project extended the existing roadway west approximately 1,200 feet to Flying Cloud Drive and included stormwater improvements, enhanced streetscaping design, and pedestrian and bicycle improvements through the construction of sidewalks and bike lanes.

With its completion, the project provides an important roadway connection between Flying Cloud Drive and Shady Oak Road, additional access to area businesses and multi-modal access to the future Southwest LRT Golden Triangle Station.

The extension was the first phase of West 70th Street improvement project. The second phase will include reconstructing the eastern segment of the roadway, extending the multi-modal improvements on West 70th Street from the future Golden Triangle LRT Station east to Shady Oak Road and will be coordinated with Southwest LRT construction project. The timeline for this project is dependent upon the final LRT construction schedule.

The Hennepin County Housing and Redevelopment Authority awarded a $470,000 transit-oriented development grant for the project to support the creation of the new complete street that will connect the future Golden Triangle LRT Station with Shady Oak Road and Flying Cloud Drive.
